*This photography diptych is printed with a lenticular effect and is one piece of a broader photographic lenticular series. A smaller iteration of this project was exhibited in March 2024. With the support of this grant, I aim to revisit Puerto Rico and extend the documentation, fostering the expansion of the body of work.

This photographic series juxtaposes the opulence enjoyed by tourists or North American settlers with the stark living conditions of the majority of native Boricuas. I use the lenticular printing method to show the North American audience what they expect to see in the Caribbean vs what we see and to portray a conversation between settler and colony. Today, almost half of the archipelago’s native Boricua population live below the poverty line, surpassing the US rates by more than three times, and the situation is worsening.
